Germany and Prague Tour: Dresden and Saxon Switzerland
Dresden, a former East German city. You will hardly notice that this was once East Germany, except that some of the run-down buildings. We were here at the Lollis Homestay for 7 and 8 Sept 2006 nights. Nice small hostel with helpful staffs.
This is Church of Our Lady( Frauenkirche). It was destroyed during WWII and took 13 years to be rebuilt.
This is Zwinger Palace. There was a concert held when we were there.
A 102 meter (334ft) long mural decorates the wall. Known as the Procession of Princes or Fürstenzug in German, it depicts a parade of rulers of the House of Wettin since 1127.
The Semper Opera House or Semperoper
Castle Moritzburg. The place is completely surrounded by a lake, which gives it an elegant feel. One of my favourites for the whole trip.
On the second day in Dresden we headed to the nearby Saxon Switzerland. Saxon Switzerland is characterized by its sandstone rocks which draw many rock climbers. This place we went to is called Bastei.
View of river Elbe from Bastei
Bastei bridge, the landmark for Bastei.
See some people on the rock?
